Master of Community Development (MCD)

The curriculum focuses on "community development as a profession," teaching students about land use, grant development, and leadership through a lens of social justice and hands-on service learning. Ph.D. in Juvenile Justice

Ph.D. in Criminology or Criminal Justice, this program focuses specifically on the youth legal system.     Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) has rapidly evolved into a major research hub, recently achieving the prestigious Carnegie R2 Classification (Doctoral University; High Research Activity). This distinction places PVAMU among a select group of only 10 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) nationwide to hold this status. The university's research enterprise is managed by the Office of Research & Innovation, which oversees a growing portfolio of over $50 million in annual external research grants and expenditures.

    PVAMU hosts several centers of excellence that are recognized nationally:
    • National Center for Infrastructure Transformation (NCIT): PVAMU is the first HBCU to lead a $40 million national-tier University Transportation Center, focusing on improving the durability of the nation's infrastructure.
    • Center of Excellence in Research and Education for Big Military Data Intelligence (CREDIT): Funded by the Department of Defense to advance predictive analytics and data science.
    • Center for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (CEES): Dedicated to biofuels and wind energy research.

    Agribusiness is the largest industry in North Carolina and a leading source of employment opportunities across the United States. Our graduates find careers in education, multinational corporations, small businesses, and government agencies.

    Phd. in Juvenile Justice research and teaching

    Opportunities include technical design, retail buying, store management/ merchandising, food-regulation compliance,food chemistry, and nutrition.

    The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) is one of the oldest programs at North Carolina A&T. It is the only comprehensive family and consumer sciences unit on the campus of a land-grant university in North Carolina.

    The department offers a variety of exciting programs, including fashion merchandising and design, human nutrition (nutrition or pre-medicine equivalents), food sciences, child development and family relations, birth-to-kindergarten education and family studies, and consumer sciences.

    The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design is popular among students seeking professional careers dedicated to improving the natural environment for long-term, sustainable productivity.

    Our programs appeal to people with diverse interests, from the inquisitive scientist to the creative artist. Our two Agriculture and Environmental Systems majors: Environmental Studies and Sustainable Land & Food Systems and Environmental Studies, explore issues related to food production and air, water and soil quality.

    Dean of Graduate Studies

    Dr. Camille Gibson, Endowed Professor in the College of Juvenile Justice, has agreed to serve as dean of Graduate Studies. She will also oversee the Northwest Houston Center. Dr. Gibson served as the interim dean of the College of Juvenile Justice and executive director of the Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center for the past five years. Under her leadership, College faculty experienced increased access to time and resources for research, which contributed to the College doubling its research funding during her tenure.

    What is the initial step in the graduate school admissions process?

    To initiate the admissions process, visit our Graduate School website at https://www.pvamu.edu/graduateschool/
    Under the “Prospective Student” section, you will find a comprehensive list of programs and their specific admission criteria. We strongly encourage you to review this information carefully

    What are the application submission deadline for Apply Texas?

    Application submission deadlines for Apply Texas are as follows:

    • For Spring 2026 semester: November 1
    • For Summer 2026 semester: April 1
    • MBA, MSA, EMBA, and EDBA, Rolling Admission (no deadline) for domestic and international students.
    • Juvenile Justice Ph.D., Priority Deadline: March 1

    New Application Deadlines for Fall 2026 and After

    Programs can have exceptions to these dates to allow flexibility in accommodating unique programmatic or departmental needs, for example, rolling admissions deadlines.
    For Doctoral Fall Admissions: (priority- funding) February 1; (final deadline) March 1.
    For Master’s Fall Admissions: April 15.
    For Doctoral Spring admissions: (priority- funding) September 1; (final deadline) October 1.
    For Master’s Spring admissions: October 1.
    For Summer I Admissions: April 15.
    For Summer II Admissions: May 15.

    What steps should I take if am a graduate senior?

    Undergraduate seniors at PVAMU who wish to apply for graduate school may utilize the Internal Application Form as an alternative to the ApplyTexas Application. However, all applicants are required to submit a $50 application fee. The Internal Application Form

    Can I still be admitted if my Undergraduate GPA is low?

    The general admission requirements for graduate school are as follows:

    Official Transcript: Submission of an official transcript is required.

    Letters of Recommendation: Three letters of recommendation must be provided.

    Additional Requirements (by Program):

     - For MBA, MSA, MSW, MSJJ, MS-NRES, MS in
    Nutrition, Chemistry, and Sociology programs, an essay is required.

    - For all Ph.D. programs, applicants must submit an official bachelor’s and master’s transcript, along with an essay, in addition to the general requirements listed above.

    Some programs may have additional documentation requirements. It is recommended that applicants contact the Program Coordinator for specific program details and requirements.
